The Orsini Fortress in Sorano
Sorano is a small village inside the territories of the Maremma, located in the heart of dell’Area Tufo, a town famous for having seen that, in ancient centuries, the populations of the Etruscans and Romans, who have left significant evidence of their passage, such as the necropolis, hollow streets, bridges and roads.
The town of Sorano has medieval origins and this peculiarity is easily seen admiring its historical center, rich in monuments referring to that particular historical period, one of the most beautiful of Sorano is represented by the Fortezza Orsini, an imposing building, made from a mass of tufa rock, which was founded in order to defend the town from enemy attack.
Orsini Fortress, which takes its name from the accounts of family and became his principal residence, was built during 1100, thanks to a noble family, that of Aldobrandeschi within the fortress is today an interesting museum, which for half of the exhibits, objects, works of art and frescoes, tells the story of country and territory, the fort is accessed by a bridge and see the facade of a large coat of arms , which melted the crests of two families that lived here, that of Orsini, symbolized by roses, and Aldobrandeschi, represented by the lions.
