A note on bartering
The merchants here love to barter. Never accept the first price at all..often you can get them waaaay down from their initial price..sometimes they do it themselves. For instance, at the attractions, vendors stalk you saying buy my stuff for ?? egyptian…as long as you keep saying no, they keep lowering the price. Even the shop owners will come down. I personally waited a shopkeep out by saying I didnt have enough till he came down from 800 egypt to 20…yeah, it’s realistic to barter that much of a difference.

Badass! Odd though, that you took off with a strange person in a strange land. It’s hard to imagine you on the back of a motorcycle and going along with whatever the unfamiliar people around you drag you into. Awesome that you got to sketch the locals. Seems that’s when you had taken control and had stopped letting the environment around you be anything but interesting. I admire your free spirit. Now, keep a roll-a-dex of all of the networks for my safe keeping. You are definitely a numinous badass.
I know what you mean..I was in korea (TAEGU) 2 years ago and the same thing applies. Get what you want for how much you wanna spend.
Hey punk! I haven’t had much chance to check your blogs these last few days and was expecting loads of stuff. What else has been going on over there? I know right now you’re lounging in Luxor but you’ve got to be doing some cool stuff to fill your time? What are the locals there like? Seems like the pace is a bit slower here than in Cairo. Any more cool pics? The buildings, the peeps, the sights? I’m glad you’re getting a chance to experience life there, despite the stifling heat. 🙂
