Days 36-39: Chillin’

April 23rd, 2005

As we mentioned in the previous entry, we found this terrific place to hang out: Agnes Water and the Town of 1770. We found out that the roads were only finished in October of 2004. Besides the trip on the HMS Vomit Comet, we spent some time walking around, hanging out at the beach, and mostly just relaxing.

Day 37: HMS Vomit Comet

April 18th, 2005

We boarded the “Spirit of 1770” – or as we call it, the HMS Vomit Comet – out to Lady Musgrave Island (really a coral cay). WARNING: there will be many references to vomit in this entry – so if the subject makes you queazy (or you’re about to eat) you may wish to skip this one.

Day 25: Dreams Do Come True

April 7th, 2005

We drove through a good fraction of the North Island (stopping for the Tongariro Crossing, Waitamo Caving, and Goat Island snorkelling) in order to reach the Bay of Islands. Since Kaikora (dolphin central on the South Island) had been completely booked through our journey – we booked a dolphin swimming cruise with Dolphin Discoveries in the Bay of Islands.

Days 23-24: Blackwater tubing

April 5th, 2005

We went on a “blackwater rafting” trip through a glow worm cave in Waitomo. Blackwater rafting is riding an inner tube through a cave. We lucked out and it was just the two of us and the guide, so we got to do a lot of extra caving activities.
