Nepal… YAY!

Greetings everyone,

My dehli experience ended or at least was postponed. I scored a train ticket to Gorapukr (sp?) and made my way by jeep to the Nepal border. Many people just fly to Kathmandu, but I thought with my limited funds and abundant time why not do things the hard way?

After spending a quiet night in a bug infested hotel room close to the border of India (really close to the jungle, not the hotels’ fault) I took a bus to a little town called Tansen in the middle hills of Southen Centralish Nepal. The buses here are a whole other world, they trick them out with all the bangles and fringe, blast hindi music and burn incense, a far cry from the Greyhounds back home.

It took a few hours to wind up through the mountans but finally made it. After getting dropped off at the top of the mountain, when I was suppossed to be dropped off at the bottom, I ended up walking through a few small villages to get back to Tansen. Old women sitting outside and little kids chasing me down the hill, Looking over the valley and all the houses perched on cliffs next to paddie fields. Truly Beautiful..

I got a room at a guest house called White Lake, which I would reccomend to anyone who comes here, it is called White Lake because of the clouds that obsure the valley below in the morning, hence looking like a big white lake. Nothing quite like having breakfest looking down on such a beautiful scene not to mention the sunsets

I was doing a little trek to the top of Sinagar Hill and I ended up running into these women, the only thing I could understand they were saying was Ekai? Ekai? (one? alone?) Yes, I said. The motioned for me to follow them, and really I had no plans so I followed them into the hills. There were three generations of women. Grandma, Mum, and daughter. We walked through the forest and without warning one of them would dart into the woods and the others would follow. They were foraging for various things, first it was little nuts, then pieces of edible grass, firewood next and then some delicious fruit that they cut open with their scary minature sickle like knives..

Well they must have liked my effort because they drug me back to their house and I met the Big daddy, and drank many cups of Chiay with them. I also met all the children, and I am not sure who belonged to who, but it was a big happy family and I was so grateful that I got to spend the afternoon with them.
