Porto Alegre and around

Yet another overnight bus sees us in Porto Alegre and heading out to Canela.  The plan being to visit a couple of national parks, only we hit a Chilean style information problem – you had to go to the place to find out what was there – not something we really wanted to waste time/money on.

In the end we visited one of the parks we intended to and were rewarded with a very impressive waterfall at Caracol (despite having just been to Iguazu).  In a way it was impressive because it was on its own and you could really feel the force of the water falling on the rocks below.

An enforced night/day in Porto Alegre (as the night bus to Montevideo was full), bit of a dump really, with the odd stunning building in amongst the palms.  The highlight here was certainly the market and all the feiojada ingredients (typcial Brazilian meal eaten for Saturday lunch consisting of beans and various bits of pork / animal you don´t want to think about!
