Fuji-san

We spent three days in the Mount Fuji area. The mountain was allegedly there – but hidden in the murk/clouds most of the time. The day we left it decided to show itself, just to prove it does exist!

We went for a day walk with ‘splendid views’ of the mountain, or in our case the clouds. We went up Mount Mitsutoge (when we eventually found the right path…) We hadn’t seen anyone for hours, but on arrival near the summit there were 3 huts and hundreds of Japanese walkers/climbers around the place – where had they come from?? I guess they managed to stick to the path and didn’t have to do some off-piste forest scrambling!

I liked the lines of tripods at the first hut – I guess all pointing to Fuji – but they could have been pointing at anything for all we could see!

Mt Fuji in the murk

Kawaguchiko (one of the five fuji lakes) is a strange place – a bit of a dump in places but incredibly popular with the tokyokians.
