Headed to Uruguay

March 23rd, 2009

The way most of consider going to Uruguay is by using the Buquebus. The ferries that run from Buenos Aires to Colonia and Montevideo each day – fully equipped with bus transfer as well. A new contender has arrived and by charging only AR$18 as opposed to AR$150 for a one way ticket, people are likely to turn heads.

Check out Colonia Express. If you book far enough ahead of time you can get some of the cheapest ferry rates. Which is nothing to scoff at, when during high season you might pay as much as AR$400 for a ticket to Montevideo or Punta del Este. 20 days in advance qualifies you for the lower price. So check it out!

Some Great Eats

March 16th, 2009

So sure, you’re in Buenos Aires. Of course you’re eating steak and drinking delicous Malbec. And of course you’re going to eat at La Cabrera. But if you’re an expat and you’re stuck in the city and you’ve eaten all the steak, pizza, pasta and white bread you can handle you’ve probably just about had it. Thats why you should check out Guia Oleo (www.guiaoleao.com.ar) for a full online menu of restaurants in BA.

My favs for lunch are some small-style boutiques. Amaranta and Natural Deli. MMMmmmmm.

If you’re in a kitty-cat mood take a walk down Santa Fe to the Botanical Garden and check out the Gatos del Botanico. Abaondoned cats get left there, but volunteer groups make sure they’re all fed and well off. Its a great way to pet a cute kitty.

Day Trip To Tigre

March 5th, 2009

Tigre is an amazing little day trip from Buenos Aires. It only takes about 40min by train to get there and if you take the Tren de la Costa, you can take in gorgeous views of the Delta and Rio de la Plata as you travel in. Tigre is known for its elaborate river and canal system which ultimately ends up as a city entirely on water. Grocery boats, gorgeous hotels and tons of water make this a great way to escape the last of the summer heat in Buenos Aires.
