A Valuable Travel Resource

April 7th, 2009

If you’re going to be in BA, you’ll need these few things to make your travel experience tip top:

Guia ‘T – this guide to all the city streets includes (and it’s main purpose is for) bus routes. You can’t get lost with the pocket sized version in your backpack. No more than AR$ 5 at any kiosko.

Guia Oleo – www.guiaoleo.com.ar is a phenominal website. It has all the restaurants in the city searchable by name, barrio and type of food. Fully equipped with reviews of course

Clarin – I like news in Argentina Clarin style but there are plenty of other periodicals to get the news from. Stay informed and read the local news!

Cristina Kirchner at G20

April 6th, 2009

Here’s a tidbit for you. Cristina Kirchner was one of the many world leaders to be invited to, and attend the G20 summit. Titles of news on the issue seems to be surrounding her need to tread lightly while being there. She plans to as Brown for millions in aid. Ironically, her visit there falls on the anniversary of the British Argentine war over the Falkland Islands.

A particularly lovely hostel…

April 3rd, 2009

I just recently had some friends come and stay with me for about two weeks. It was too bad they couldn’t stay with me in my own place, but they had a fantastic time staying at this hostel in San Telmo.

San Telmo has one of the coolest neighborhoods vibes in the city, and they loved bouncing around to the antiques fair, running around to local clubs and check out all the vintage boutiques near the plaza by their hostel. I normally don’t get into San Telmo as much but after their stay I will ceratinly make it a habit. If you’re going to visti Buenos Aires – I’m making this, my recommendation!

Flight Deals!

April 2nd, 2009

Even though I’ve been a maniac about discussing the economy, I had to share the CRAZIEST flight deal I’ve seen in a while. Today Jet Blue was offering flights from NewYork  to San Francisco starting at $14 one-way. For $49 dollars you can take the four hour flight and pay less for your flight then the taxi ride into NY from the airport.

These are crazy times. Keep an eye out for those travel deals!

What The Economy?

March 31st, 2009

Foreigners to Buenos Aires have been noticing two things happen with the economy lately. The first is the incredibly horrible problem of inflation that has been plaguing the city for ages now. The second is that the dollar is climbing high against the peso, a problem that is sure to fuel the inflation issue. The dollar has climbed from 3.1 to over 3.7 in the last 8 months! While that is nice for the traveling expatriate it means big problems for local Argentines as prices rise and the cost of living becomes more expensive.

Keep an eye out on world economies and what that means for travelers!
