Argentina Fines Increase!

April 24th, 2009

Yikes!

We thought we’d spread the word on a nasty little update regarding fees and fines. Previously, when you would leave Argentina  it would only cost you AR 50 if you over-stayed your visa. Now, it is AR 300 for an overstayed visa. Not exactly breaking the bank but still, a marketable increase.

Just thought we’d let you know!

If your compass could talk it would say, “travel smart and travel safe”.

Last Chances Are Approaching

April 23rd, 2009

Even though you can always head north, the good weather in South America is about to say, ‘Adios’. Now is the last month or so where you can comfortably visit Patagonia in the South or travel north and have sunny weather at the Iguazu falls. Both are accessible by our favorite travel country: Argentina! Book cheap airfares and enjoy a trip to Buenos Aires, Iguazu, or Patagonia.

La Boca!

April 21st, 2009

Plastered on the corners of nearly every magazine, tour guide book and photo album of buenos aires is either the obelesque OR la boca. Boca is a poor barrio in Buenos Aires popular for its colorful houses, tango shows and cool back alley streets. It’s a favorite among tourists and is a must see when you visit. Even though its clique – you simply have to see it! ADVICE from yours truly. If Your Compass Could Talk it would say, “La Boca!”

There is such a high demand to learn English in Buenos Aires and other large South American cities that with just a little bit of guidance, you could be teaching to portenos or little kids in classrooms. If you’re thinking of giving your desk job the boot and traveling South America – teaching can be an excellent choice.

Boca vs River

April 17th, 2009

Boca vs River is a HUGE soccer game going down this Sunday in Buenos Aires. The two teams represent one of the largest rivals in the country so the game, dubbed the Super Clasico is going to be quite the match. You can find tickets, but they’ll cost you a pretty penny. Scalping might be your best bet.

Backpacker Fashion

April 16th, 2009

Yes, you’re not a cool backpacker unless you’re wearing TOMs. End of story. All those guys from the campo are running around in what just so happens to be the non-designer, inspiration for the shoes, where TOMS donates pairs consistently. Anyway I’m just saying. Backpacker fashion exists. It lives in TOMS.

South America’s Ecotourism Problem

April 15th, 2009

Machu Picchu is one of South America’s largest tourism draws. Travelers come from all over the globe to see an ancient relic left behind from historical cultures. However, Peru’s mismanagement of the tourism in Aguas Calientes is putting Machu Picchu at risk of being damaged and destroyed. For a location that is so rich in historical significance it would be a shame for it to be destroyed simply due to mass and reckless tourism.
