For the past 3 days, I’ve been trying to ask Eveline a whole lot of questions about waitressing and how to do this or that ever since I got a trial at the Subiaco Hotel(the same place Eveline is working). I’ve used hostel plates to practice carrying 3 at a time and earlier today I bought a wine opener and $4.00 wine to practice my wine service. I’ve been carrying 2 empty plates in one hand and, one smashed coffee cup later, getting pretty confident.
Tonight I got there 15 mintues early (I’m a keener!) They gave me a quick overview of the restuarant and then let me and another trainee loose to just wander around and help out whenever we could. I made sure all the tables had full water bottles, reset tables, and ran some food out to tables, restocked the stations, and did one wine service. Got flagged down a lot by customers asking questions and placing orders. After pointing to my name tag stating my name was “Trainee” I told them I’d help them as best I could.
At the end of the night, the only complaint the duty manager had was about the wine service I performed. I held the bottle incorrectly… but she’s willing to give me a chance!
it was fun! But we’ll see how much fun it is after I do a few more shifts!! Eveline is already getting backache and tired feet and she’s only worked 3 shifts.
In other good news, Eveline, Andrea and I have secured an apartment! we are going to sign the papers tomorrow. Andrea is an Aussie we met in Perth at the hostel. Her first job out of uni in another city, is the reason why she’s living out of a hostel in her own country.
