Alpha 6: La Cangreja
Alpha 6 have mattocked, shovelled and raked their way far beyond the rangers expectations. It is now a trek in itself to reach the worksite – we apologise to our successors! To make up for it, we have left a slightly wonky but lovely jungle camp where we all felt very at home.
Our culinary skills have expanded hugely, thanks to our jungle domestic goddess Project Managers, who have taught us to use our rations resourcefully in such delights as Siân’s curry and Bobby’s cracker mush.
This fine dining has been accompanied by lots of suitably stimulating conversation concerning the benefits of the trail.
We often followed our feasts with feats of great and diverse dancing in the form of after-dinner cabarets. These ranged from impressive recorder to sing-a-longs.
We will miss each other’s company greatly, especially that of the river, and hope to return one day to see the benefits of our work in action. We will take back lots of happy memories of the Black River and such respect for the importance of preserving places like this.
