Cinque Terra

24 Nov

After Spain I headed to cinque terra, ITALY! The town I stayed in is called RioMaggiore… it was fairy tale like. The town was located right on the Meditteranean, snuggled between sheer cliffs and caves along the coast.

I stayed in an apartment with some other wandering travelers and spent the next three days hiking the mountain trails and exploring the hillsides. The people of the area cultivated the land so that they could actually grow plants (which is terribly hard on a mountain.) They put up millions of dry stone walls to aid in growing olives, grapes, and fruit trees. The people living in the town have families who date back for centuries. It was the most authentic experience since the Aran Islands in Ireland… I am thankful that I had this experience, I spent thanksgiving cooking pasta and hiking the hills!
