The silence of the desert…
Hey you all, it’s being a while since the last post so I’m gonna tell you now about what I did in Jaiselmer and about a 3 day desert safari I did…
I left Pushkar with my energies charged after so much relaxing and eating!! I enjoyed it very much because I was with Edu and with Ane and Olaia (from the Vasque country if I say Spain they’ll kill me :)) so we were just having fun.

This is the reality of India!
We started our trip together taking a bus to Jodphur, the blue city, that left us there in the early morning. We could only get a place to seat down, so Edu stayed in the cabin, the girls slept on the floor and I got the place against my will. When we got there we went to the fort, wwich is by far the best fort India has!! It’s beautiful!!! It’s an actual museum, you pay quite a lot to get in, but you get an audio ugide included and the fort is in perfect conditions, I loved it. From the top you have an excellent view from the city that really is blue!! Oh so nice :).

That evening we took another bus to Jaiselmer the most western city of India, almost at the border with Pakistan. The city is nice because it’s not so big and noisy as others I visit, and it’s in the middle of the desert. When we were entering the city around 23:30, some people jumped into the bus and were telling us we had to pay some taxes in order to get inside the city. In India, and almost everywhere in the 3rd world, you never know when people are telling you the true or just telling you lies so you give them your money. We thought it was the latest, and refuse to pay. The bus wasn’t allowed to start for at least 15 minutes, and all the other Hindi passengers were shouting and complaining, but we stayed there without paying, until it was to stressful for the people of the taxes and they let the bus start!!! VICTORY!!!
Jaiselmer has also a fort and what is really good from it is that it’s alive! You go inside and you find yourself in a medieval city, full of narrow streets and alleys, restaurants and shops. I loved it as well!! We were staying in a hotel just outside the fort for less than a euro each and that made it even better 🙂
It’s the wedding season in Rajastan, so there are many parades on the street, where the bride is followed by musicians and many people
Also the groom has it’s own parade. His rides a horse while a big pick up car drives in front of him carrying huge speakers with very loud music. Everyone is dancing like a mad man. Very very funny 🙂

From there we hired a 3 days camel safari thru the desert, which was very nice. Camels are I think the most uncomfortable animals I’ve ride on, they are noisy, VERY smelly and slobbery, but we had a great time. We were actually sleeping on the dunes on top of a blanket and under the stars and the moon. The silence is complete and you are totally in peace. I highly recommend it to anyone that has the chance!
Then it was time to move again and we did it to Bikaner the city where the Karni Mata temple is or maybe more known as the temple of the rats, but thats another story you don’t want to miss…
talk to you soon
