San Telmo, a night of Tango and Drums
Everyone says that if you come to Argentina you can´t miss a tango show. I think it´s a must for anybody visiting this country, but the thing is that a Tango show is expensive. I have the solution to this matter, let´s enjoy Tango, a couple of beers and wonderful night and all within a true backpacker´s budget
San Telmo is known as the bohemian quarter of Buenos Aires. It was considered one of the best neighborhoods until the end of the 19th century, when a series of epidemics changed it into an affordable place for artists.
Every Sunday afternoon a bunch of people come to Plaza Dorrego for the antiques fair. When the night falls, the crowds stay and the tango culture comes alive. I´m not talking about clubs or bars, although there are a thousand of them, I´m talking about a plastic floor rolled out in the plaza where normal couples enjoy the music and dance the night away.
Aoife my girlfriend from Ireland arrived a week ago and is traveling with me to Colombia. We had a wonderful time looking at couples dancing, and then when we thought the night was over, PUM PUM PUM, a crowd came towards us with at least 20 people playing drums and another 30 dancing in front of them! We joined them of course and danced to the rhythm of the drums on the cobbled streets of San Telmo.
Aoife enjoying the beats
Now you know my friends, next time you come to Buenos Aires save some pesos and go to San Telmo and enjoy a true night of tango in this amazing neighborhood. Saimon says: it´s worth it 🙂

Hallo 🙂
