Finally made it to North Island…
I’m a little behind my rough schedule this morning. I spent about 6 weeks on the South Island, and now have less than two to do the entire north. It’s a grey overcast day as the Interislander ferry leaves Picton, three hours later to arrive in Wellington, the capital city on the north island.
The Aratere winds through the Marlborough Sounds and across the choppy sea. Wellington is known as the windy city, and it certainly is today. Over my day and a half here, we look round the modern National Museum, take the cable car to the top of the hill and walk through the botanical gardens to the bottom and have a look round the Parliament House on the first day of the new session.
Wellington’s a nice enough city, but still just a city, and with time running out it’s time to go up to see the volcanoes next.
