Y Tu Mama Tambien
I promised some crazy adventures, but I could never have imagined my trip would turn out quite like this.
I might as well start by setting the stage. I came to Guanajuato during an enormous arts and culture festival, called the Festival Internacional Cervantino. There are thousands of tourists here, most of them young, from all over the world and every part of mexico. Every night there are street performers, clowns, concerts, and massive cultural events all over the city. On the weekends, the streets get so packed that it looks like a sea of people spreading through the central garden all the way down the main drag. It is an exciting time to be here, and a person gets the sense that anything can happen; the bizarre is to be expected.
Everything in the last week has become a bit of a blur, and i have trouble keeping track of all of the phone numbers ive got in my wallet. At the same time, its not such a bad thing. Ive had so many experiences, and met so many people, that there is really no question whether this trip is going in the right direction.
Last friday i went out with three girls, all 17 years old. One of them has a boyfriend who is 21, and he`s a cool guy. This girl seems to be in love with me, which puts me in a fairly unfortunate situation… In any case, they went home, and I met my roommate Rocky in the hippy bar, Bar Fly. (Rocky is really cool. He`s 24, and though I hear he was pretty tranquil before I got here, he`s become my crazy wingman…) Rocky was with two girls, and we set a date for going out to lunch the next day at 1 pm. At about 2:30, we began to head home, but as we walked through the park, we somehow became integrated into a group of 15 rowdy guys around my age. They were playing a game in which a coin: if you win the toss, you pick someone in the group to punish, and if you lose, you are punished. Punish is probably a bad term, because the punishment involved finding a random girl in the park and kissing her. We would all form a circle around the girl, chanting “BESOS,” and informing her that she had no choice but to kiss the guy. It was a lot of fun, and we quickly bonded with those kids. The last group of girls we approached asked us to meet them sometime tomorrow, so we agreed to meet in the park at 4 o`clock.
On Saturday, we had a date at 1, another at 4, and then a party to go to that night. Everything worked out remarkably smoothly, except that I couldnt find the party, so I went to a disco with the girls from 4 o`clock instead. After I left the disco, I was walking down the street fairly drunk when some girls began giggling as I passed. I think we talked for a minute or two, but then I remember that one girl (not bad looking) kissed me out of the blue. It was kinda cool, but extremely surreal, like some weird dream. In the park, I met the same kids from the night before, and we played a bit of our kissing game. I also met some girls that night, and we set a date for the next day.
I spent most of Sunday walking all around the city, but that evening was perhaps the most remarkable of my time here in Guanajuato. Earlier in the day I had seen some girls selling kisses for 5 pesos (50 cents) in the park, and I talked to them a bit. They said that they hadnt made any money that day, even though they were all quite good looking. Nevertheless, in the spirit of adventure, I decided that I would sell kisses as well. Rocky and I made a sign:
Se Venden BESOS, Solo 3 pesos
2*1 Especial, Solo Chavas
We also charged one peso for a photo with us. In just about 3 hours we made 70 pesos, and ended up kissing quite a few girls. It was tons of fun, and we were laughing nonstop for hours. Afterwards, the loot went towards a round of beer in a bar playing Bob Marley.
My most recent adventure involves a teacher of mine. She is gorgeous, and though she is 31 years old, she looks about 23. Ive only had 3 classes with her, but I definitely think she is one of the coolest woman Ive ever met. Both Rocky and I are in a class together with her, and we always try to lighten the mood, and make her laugh. Over the last 3 days, the flirting has gotten more and more obvious. Last night, we invited her to come out with us. We drank in a house, then went to a club, and we walked her home at about 4:30. During this time, we discovered that her boyfriend moved to Germany, and when I commented about the implausibility of long-distance relationships, she told me she agreed that it wouldnt last. She also informed us that she usually goes for younger guys. I invited her to come with me to Mexico City after Guanajuato, and she told me she would. Dancing, it was just like a scene in “Y tu mama tambien,” with the two guys dancing with the gorgous older, more experienced woman. (except it didnt end the same way…) We`ll see how things work out, but I`ve got a good feeling about it. Sorry if this type of thing bothers anybody, but compared to Harold and Maude, 18 and 31 really isnt so bad. Wish me luck.
Im really not spending all my time drinking and chasing girls, things just kinda fall into place. I am having a VERY good time.
Keep it real, everyone.
Peace,
Dan

Hey Dan!
Glad to see your having a good time over there. Sounds like the pu nany is good over there in south america! Go hunt those wild Mexican beaverssss!!!!!!
Things here are…. alright I guess. Besides from all the school crap (college apps, essays, tons works of, you know the drill) weekends are getting a little better. Last night we hit this party of that new french girl at EB. Dude she lives in her own apartment on newbury st. The place is madd chill and this girl is dopppeee. We met this dude last night to buy us some stuff he basically took us to a liquor store like 30 min away and the entire time he talked to us about the US and politics and all this crap. He looked like a bum but he was just some dude with a long ass beard backpacking thru the US. Anyways he was wicked chill he basically had us go in the liquor store with him and show him what we wanted and he bought it for us! So we ended up getting 3 racks of fuckin awesome beer which we all finished by the end of the night. Haha dude zach shook up a champagne bottle and then blew the cork onto gaston’s ass! It was hilarious
But anyways that probably sounds like crap compared to the fun you’re having up there, but I just wanted to let you know we’re not dead down here! Still keeping it real.
Hey Farid, I never got to see you before you left… I had so much shit to do with school and SATs and all that we never had time to chill. But dude we have to keep in touch… I wanna know how the pu nani is over there in Germany!
Dan keep it real, and remember older chicks are the way to go.
peace!

Dan,
It’s sounds like this trip is getting more insane as you go. I couldn’t list all the things you should try if you have the chance, but….
WRITE A BOOK WHEN YOU COME BACK.
This sounds like an amazing experience. You’ve done more in this month than many people do in their whole lives. Go get ’em.

Whatever Dan, as far as I’m concerned, drinking and chasing girls is what 90% of life is about, so you seem to be on the right track.
Man, it’s good to know that you’re ok and out seeing the world, I’ve very very proud of you. Still waiting on the day you buy and old raft and make your way down to my island in the summertime.
I miss you very much. My parents are so worried about you, they keep telling me they’re gonna give me some contacts to give to you. I tell them you’re tough and you’re doing good though.
I gotta go, but i’ll make a more substancial post when i have the time for it baby.
Take good care of yourself.
Go get that teacher you stud you.
love you. Sigue andando mas que un perro 🙂
Gaba.
