Dublin

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

well the plan when we woke up today was to get to Armagh, a town near the border of northern ireland and the republic of ireland. we got to the bus station and saw cheap fares for dublin, and thought, hey, we like paying little. The bus ride to dublin was long but good, we went over narrow little stone bridges, along side hills of nothing but beautiful green pastures and big beautiful cows, and we saw a few little towns that look great, i am definetly coming back when i am old enough to rent a car and see ireland properly. The bus ride had no incidents except the bus driver asking me and eddy for directions, other than that it went off without a hitch. we got to dublin, checked into a really shady hostel, wandered, found a pub, had a guiness, found a better hostel, checked in there and retrived our bag from the vigilantly secure left luggage room at the city manor in dublin. (the door was wide open, and visible from the street, as the door to the hostel was wide open as well). so we showered, had some dinner, wandered, and taht is what we are leaving to go do now as well, hav ea little wander and maybe some guiness. Tommorrow is eddys birthday so we are going to be drinking extensively tommorrow night, so there will likely be no blog postings, and if there are, i apologize in advance for my inebriated typing and incoherence on various subjects most likely including, but not limited to: pizza toppings, paper density, females(including specific females, females in general, the female mind, and the female body), fabrication techniques and the greater implications of wool socks. Hope everyone is having a great time, and keep the comments coming children. I am reading them, i#m loving them, and i may be slow to reply to emails, but I will get around to it, at the moment im using precious internet minutes for blogging and figuring out where the hell i may go tommorrow. Cheers.

Finally on the road

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

The trip started off well. I realized right before going through security that I forgot my watch. Don’t worry i thought, eddy will bring his watch, i told him too. All I had to do was get through my flight to london, change planes in heathrow airport and make it to Belfast and I would meet eddy and forever be in the know as to the time of day. That would’ve worked out nicely, except we flew into different airports. We didn’t know that was going to happen, it just occurred unprovoked. Apparently eric waited about 5 hours at his airport, i went to the bathroom, looked for five minutes and within half an hour was on a bus going to get him. It was a twenty mile journey to the other airport, and when i stepped off the bus, there was eddy, apparently happy to see me.

So that is how my trip started. Adventures already. We wandered Belfast, found our hostel, wandered some more, got thirsty, and went to a pub. I had my first Guiness and I must say, I quite enjoyed it. We followed the pint with some fish and chips and went back to the hostel. We met our room mate, his name is Mike. Mike appears to be in his late 50’s, early 60’s. He’s lived in Belfast for thirty years, originally from the States. He marched with the republic in 1993 to city hall and is still very paranoid about being in this loyalist part of time. We had a nice long chat with him where he told us all about the history of the troubles recently, and how it is still happening but being hushed by the slanted British media. I can’t tell you exactly how long we chatted, I didn’t have any way of telling the time.

Trip so far is going great. Except I find myself strangely without any panic or overwhelming excitement, so far it just feels natural and my reactions to everything have been very even keeled. It’s weird, I figured I’d go off the deep end at least once either way in the first day.

Plan for tommorrow: Go to bus station, find a cheap ticket, hop on bus and go somewhere else.

Final Days of Home

Four Days Left. I have been planning this trip for over a year, saving up for the same amount of time. After putting half to three quarters of my $7/hour paycheque in the bank for a year, I'm finally less ... [Continue reading this entry]
