Sherwood

Went to Sherwood forest today. I went through about the whole Robin Hood catalogue in my head (ooh-de-lally…) Lots of birds about. Looked nothing like any of the movie sets ;). (The visitor center had lots of posters from the various adaptations). Saw the Major Oak, where the gang used to hide out and meet up. It was a really nice walk around the forest. I feel like I should have more to say, but mostly I just walked around. It had really good signs everywhere, about all the insects and birds and oak ecology.

And then I went to Newgate Abbey, which was Lord Byron’s home and had lots of lovely gardens. So – lots of walking around today, and it was really lovely out. I’m still a bit sick, but not too bad anymore. And I had very yummy Indian for dinner. Off to York tomorrow.

*Forgot to mention – to get to Newgate abbey there was about a 1 mile walk through the woods, and by through the woods, I mean in a tiny path cut into small trees and shrubs and such. It was pretty fun, although I couldn’t really stand up straight for most of the walk. And I found an owl pellet. *
