Post 200!

How exciting is this? 200 blog posts. I’m not sure whether this is an achievement of having been traveling so long, or a reflection that even long-distance travel has trouble breaking my internet addictions.

Either way;

I went to the zoo today, which was GREAT. It’s nicely landscaped, you get there by ferry, you enter by taking a skycab over the elephants (well, the whole zoo, but the elephants were easiest to look down on), and no matter what you are looking at; in the background you get the harbour, city, opera house, and bridge. The exhibits were really high quality for the most part, and it easily has the best location of any zoo I’ve been to. Highlights included a good reptile house (with komodo dragon, reticulated python, rough knob tailed gecko – which is soo cool looking – I’ve never heard of it before (you can’t quite see, but it has a perfect club on the end), rhinoceros iguana, mata mata and tuatara (which are more closely related to dinosaurs than lizards and from New Zealand)), a good small predator exhibit (including fennec foxes and a large fox-type animal called a dhole), and (as always) a really good nocturnal exhibit. That one had feathertail gliders, which look like mice, but they run along the walls like geckos, only really quickly, new caledonian geckos, which are huge, quolls, bilbys, yellow-bellied gliders, and a great display with a possum and some tawny frogmouths, which are definitely my new favorite bird. The possum kept running up and deliberately annoying the frogmouths – it was pretty funny. They also had a really good bird show, with lots of owls swooping over everyone and a white bellied eagle which was huge. There was also a large Andean Condor exhibit where they were flying around. Being on a hill, the zoo wasn’t always easy to get around (I ended up back tracking a lot to get to the next area), but otherwise it was a lot of fun.

The ferry back over was lovely. Then I wandered around the Rocks, which is this very cute area out past all the skyscrapers before the harbour bridge. Its all very quaint and old-timey. And the weather was much nicer today, high winds aside (one of the eagles was having so, so much fun in the strong winds she refused to come down).

I was checking out the boxofficemojo all time adjusted gross list (what would Gone with the Wind have made were tickets back then $6.75 (do they adjust for matinees?)) anyways, check out this entry:

69 The Rocky Horror Picture Show Fox $362,356,800 $112,892,319 1975

Oddly appropriate, no?

A list of the best audio commentaries

The 6 faces of John Krasinski Of course, I think he has more, but fun gallery anyways.
I was also bumming around the SFGate site, and found an article covering Pride 2004, which I went to and was the parade after the marriages at City Hall. It was really sweet, so here’s part of it:

“Sunday’s pride parade was the same treasure box of eye candy that it’s been for decades. All the standard stuff was out there — flogging demonstrations by S&M lovers, buff dancers grinding on a beer company float, chain-metal shirt vendors.

Been there, done that. This year, married couples were the stars.Organized by Marriage Equality California, which is trying to legalize same-sex marriage, many of the couples marched carrying enlarged copies of their marriage licenses, and signs that explained their parallel lives.

“Engaged 13 years/Married Feb. 14.” “Partnered 22 years/Married 4 months. ” “Sweetie, grab the kids and come to City Hall.” “I’m proud of my lesbian daughter and her new wife.” “We love each other/We’re human beings/We’re married.”

Even though they had attended countless pride parades before, many of the new couples — and those cheering and crying along with them from the sidewalks — said Sunday’s was more emotional.

“People were screaming, ‘Congratulations!’ and crying as we walked past,” said Chari Davidson, 48.”

Awww… it was really sweet. And the married contingent went on FOREVER. Seriously – equality already.

*I’m seeing Harry Potter in 15 hours!! Mwahahaha… I’m trying to avoid reviews till then. (Because reviewers mostly get blockbusters wrong (see: Pirates)).*

musica: Leaving song pt 2 – AFI, Holiday – Green Day, Tarantula – Smashing Pumpkins, Everyday I love you less and less – Kaiser Chiefs, Capital G – NIN, Cherry Lips – Garbage.

Woo hoo! Congratulations on your 200 posts!

As to why so many, I think it’s partly the travel, but largely the entertainment addiction. In any case, I’ve really enjoyed all of them…
