Being an aggressive bitch works

I got hired!!

After I left the internet cafe, I went to temp agency and basically said, look – I’m smart. Hire me. And the receptionist is from Seattle. She said, look – its because you haven’t worked in an office, but you went to frickin Columbia. Let me get you on the computer tests.

So – I took tests for about 2 hours. And I had a little trouble on the excel. It was supposed to let me click twice, but on 3 or 4 of the 30 questions it only let me click once and then it went straight on. I let the receptionist (Cynthia) know this, and she said, okay well let me check your results. Turns out they were really, really good (no one told me what they were – the only thing Cynthia said was 70% at advanced excel and the usual score is 50%). So – within 5 minutes Sarah, the consultant, comes to see me, apologizes for not getting back to me, and I fill out all my paperwork (oh – and took some more tests – spelling included – wonder how that went… I’m far too used to autocorrect). All I have to do now is get my tax number and bring it in to my meeting on Monday morning (10am) for my interview. Cynthia said she thinks I’ll be out working ASAP regardless, “your test scores are too good not to.” Yay! So – all to the good. I’m asking for 15/ hour. That would be awesome.
Paid the rest of my deposit and Peter’s dropping the key off this afternoon. Moving in tomorrow and harassing the tax people. Then I’ve got the whole weekend to be a BUM!! I got out 2 library books (Ballad of Frankie Silver by Sharyn McCrumb and Thunderstruck by Erik Larsen). Oh – and I read Murder Mysteries by Neil Gaiman – which was awesome (although there was one or two little things I didn’t quite get). I love his ability to take established mythology and spin it on its head. Going to go browse in the indie/awesome video store, Alice in Videoland, where I’ll be happy as a clam. I’m thinking some six feet under season 2, maybe Some like it hot? Did I mention that they gave me a free magnet for joining? I chose Pan’s Labyrinth. Hmm – and I’ll go buy some more work clothes maybe. Wow – no longer living off 2 outfits is going to be SO exciting…
I think I’ll go celebrate by getting some yummy dinner. Oh shit! No! You know how I’ll celebrate? By going to check out a most-likely-not-great-action flick, co-starring the yummy Timothy Olyphant. That’s right. Die Hard 4.0 opens today in NZ. woo hoo! (Okay – this is misplaced excitement for the Bourne Ultimatum which doesn’t come out until the 23rd here. Oh – and you know the big billborads with Matt Damon’s face dominating them? Ok – they’ve been bugging me. And I finally figured out why – they look like an ad for Monday night football. Not a movie. And not a kick ass one like the new Bourne.) Rats – its already 6. I’ll put it off till tomorrow. To food! (But first – entertainment nonsense:)
Speaking of Gaiman, this via cleolinda: Or, as Gaiman himself says, “If you’re in two minds about Stardust, about whether or not to see it or even when to see it, please go and see it this weekend. Friday night if you can. Take friends. If necessary, take them at gunpoint. They will love the movie so much they will forgive you afterwards. And if they don’t forgive you, you can dispose of them quietly — you’re the one with the gun, after all — and you will have a wonderful time for the rest of your life with the new friends you made at the Stardust screening.”

More fun stuff from cleolinda: “Lost Ringing Veronica’s Bell?

Ian McShane Joins Death Race. Which has already acquired Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, and… Joan Allen? Seriously, I still can’t get over that.”

Trailerspotting: I love this description, “Low budget, ecological horror thriller that takes place in Alaska where a team that is working to exploit oil resources is tormented by an unseen evil. After one crewmember is found dead, disorientation slowly claims the sanity of the other team members as each of them succumbs to an unknown fear.” MWAhahahaha…. Its for something called the Last Winter. And the description for Reservation Road, “Just like with Lust, Caution Focus Features has decided it’s in their best interest to premiere a trailer for what might be an Oscar contender in abysmal technical quality at amazon.com. Bravo!” (I thought this was the one that got trashed at Cannes, but I think that was We Own the Night, Joaquin Phoenix’s other film. This one looks like serious oscar bait and probably far too depressing for me to ever watch it.) There’s a redband trailer for Shoot Em Up here. Paul Giamatti makes me laugh out loud – how much fun do you think he and Clive Owen had making this?
Cinematical has a “sexiest geeks” of comic con: I like the initiative this girl showed in making a 5th element costume.

This is interesting. I think its by the same guy who did women in art, which Neva Chonin wrote a column on a month or two back. The youtube site has the complete list of pics he used.
musica: care to take a guess? hmmm? That’s right; Again, again, again by blaqk audio. God, I’m obsessed.  (Also; dance with me – the sounds, playgirl – ladytron, music is the victim – scissor sisters, true grit – crystal method, personal jesus – marilyn manson. Oh and heaven sent by John Digweed. It’s a techno kinda day. (Can I mention that one of my all time favorite movie posters is the guy on MUNI with the disco ball?))

Have you seen Mirrormask? Good flick, done by Gaiman and the Henson company. You’d enjoy, I think.

But of course. I did enjoy it. However, the plot was fairly simplistic – I think because they focused on some of the visuals so much. Which I was okay with – the visuals were AWESOME.
