Arts festival

I don’t believe I’ve yet posted about how Christchurch is in the middle of its annual arts festival. There are lots of giant installations, particularly around Cathedral square (I got some video I’ll post on youtube later).

What I didn’t know is that it is ALSO in the middle of its INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. Holy crap, batman! So I found that out at 7pm tonight after I had changed out of my wet clothes (its raining today) and warmed up inside. Hauled out my rain gear, threw on my (new) Merino undergarments (which are very warm), and busted my ass down to the cinema (no online ticket sales). Found that the box office had closed an hour before. So I have to be there at 10:30a tomorrow to see if I can get tix for A Mighty Heart and RESCUE DAWN (it’s gotta be sold out, but a girl can dream), and Monday at 10:30 to see if I can get tix for Perfume. I’m restraining myself and not buying tickets to Paprika, A guide to recognizing your saints, or Half Nelson, all of which I’ll add to my netflix queue when I get home. Then I walked cross town to the other cinema hosting the festival and managed to get one of the absolute last tickets to Death at a Funeral on the 19th! Score!! I am so exited for that one. (Alan Tudyk (Arrested Development, Strangers with Candy), Peter Dinklage, and Mr. Darcy himself – Matthew MacFadyen.) Cross your fingers on the other 3…
I went into a rugby store today (for the merino warmers – on sale, go me). Found an adorable black v-neck tee with a white collar for the All Blacks; 75$. But then, I found the same style that said New Zealand instead of All Blacks on sale for 15$. Rock. It’s close enough and super cute on me. BTW – my union team is the Canterbury Crusaders. They have a few home games coming up for the local cup; if I manage to get a job I want to go.

This is awesome: an interview with John August about being photographed for the NYTimes (in the highly entertaining ongoing popwatch series about being a first time indie director) and the photo they go with: Ryan Reynolds without his shirt on.
Does it show a delirious amount of confidence in finding a job that I’m going shopping and buying movie tickets when I’m broke? Then again, there is a local burrito place hiring, if I get desperate… Oh – I should have checked the movie theaters. I’ll do that when I hit the bookstores on Monday (after the temp agency and the film fest box office). All I hear is how many jobs are around. I’m sure I’ll find something.
