Day 20, ATM’s
We were all still recovering from the full moon party and decided that today we would take it easy and just blast round the island on our motorbikes. Bearing in mind that all of have never ridden before this week we have all stayed on and been very carefull, unlike some. Three Irish lads staying at our place, one got wiped out yesterday and the other this morning, the one who hadnt had a big accident handed his key back in and is gonna stick to taxi’s. Its like anything else in life, itsonly as dangerous as you make it most of the time.
Anyhows we all headed out on the bikes and headed high up and deep into the jungle to find this waterfall we had heard about, after a few miles the roads turned from tarmac to dirt, potholes, roots hills so steep you couldnt walk down them and lots of the road cut away by water leaving deep rivets in the ground. At this point we maybe should have stopped but we didnt.
ATM’s I hear you say????? well we called our bikes all terrain mopeds!! as we carried on through jungle, streams. extreme hills, rocks, gravel, holes, cliffs ( you get the picture ) we went past someone in a 4×4 who said he couldnt go any further, he was supprised when the 5 of us went past him on our bikes. This was like the mountain biking in Chiang Mai, this time heavy bikes and no protection at all apart from my sandals hehe.
We must have gone for over an hour, never concentrated and sweated so much in my life, I guess because it was so bad the was no way to get to any serious spped so helped prevent accidents. These are the same roads that 2 days earlier 13 Thai people in a taxi went over the cliff killing several of them…..
this is were we called it a day!!!!!
In reflection we did amazing well, the trip back we did in a quater of the time because we had got used to the type of riding we were doing, no crashes at all. We had got right into the jungle though, no water or food, if we had of broken down we would have been stuffed, but we didnt Im here and all is well, so dont worry mom….
When we got back we were pretty happy to be in one piece to be honest, we had tea, played cards and chilled.
NONG…….. the legend
The guy who is the face of the Chakona resort were we are staying is so funny, he is the littleist Thai man you will have ever seen and is always smilling and joking and is always pulling faces. As Chaz, Murph and myself were the first to check into the resort 5 days before the full moon party we had time to get to know him pretty well. He has invited us to stay with him, his wife and their family in the jungle near to Chiang Mai when he returns home to visit his 5 year old daughter Nadia. He wants to put us up and show us around. I dont know if we will accept this offer as its 1400 north of here and we have already been there, but he will be gutted if we dont, so will see.
We decided this was our last night here and Nong sorted ferry tickets out for us to Ko Samui for 2moro morning and is giving us a lift to the port.
