Day 11, 11-09-05, Bangkok
Sight seeing in Bangkok took up most of today to be honest and walking for miles….
Bangkok good or bad???
There are far more good things about Bangkok but there are a few anoyances also. Certain touristy areas here such as the Grand Palace, you have well dressed and very well spoken Thai men that come up to you and ask were you from and try and start up a conversation. Its not too bad when you know whats coming, almost fun to see them try. They tell you the attraction is closed or something then offer much information on the city offering to get you a tuk tuk to take you to see alternative free attractions, all harmless though.
Every tuk tuk and taxi you see offers therer services to you, which again is not a bad thing but when theres like a billion of them here it does wear you down alittle.
Anyhows, visited Wat po today whish houses the famous reclining Buddhaits aprox 12 meters high and 46 meters long, its huuuge, pic again does not so it justice. Arriving then at the Grand Palace it was just far too busy and thought pics would be poor so left it for another day. Ended up just wandering around town. Grabbed a meal and headed home for some shuteye.
Trying to keep to a budget here is not going too well either, probably avg about 25 pounds a day spending and most of that is at night on beer……… so day 12 will be a quiet one and early night.
Tonight I headed out and the hotel next to mine was showing the film Hitch so grabbed a beer and watched that, ( probably do same tonight )
Headed into Khoa San then. A bar called Gullivers seems to be the place were most hang out here, well packed and mixed with Thai and tourists. You can also play pool here and is taken very seriously, 20 bhat to play as challenger and winner stays on then for free untill beaten so again tonight Im going to try my luck. To be honest the Thai girls here are amazing pool players, with this system it pays to be good otherwise its a long wait for your next turn.
Its a small world…..
I then bumped into a couple of guys I met in Chiang Mai, Charlie and Ant from London. Charlie was very impressed that he had pulled a Thai girl, so intorduced me to her and friends, Ant and I were talking to a couple of people from Canada when charlie came back in a huff. He had asked the thai girl to go back with him and she said yes but asked for money…. haha, its a steep lurning curve here.. Met another guy here thats been living out here for about 5 years and knows alot about the country and was very informative talking with him. It seems obvious to say maybe but you get moer out of this country if you put more in, i.e you smile and talk alittle thai you are treated very well. You make no effort at all then thai’s make not effort in return, so its works well.
Drank too much again or should I say beer here is strong and goes down too well but today im going to take it slow, spend no money and chill. I gotta start planning my next trip out of this place so need to research to today. Also going to watch England win the Ashes today so fingers crossed.

Good call Justin. Or did you type this after it was all over? Pietersen century, magnificent. Australian tabloids are claiming they lost to South Africa though.
