Day 12, 12/9/05, Bangkok
Still hotter than hell here at the mo but used to it now.
Had/needed a lay in today to catch on some sleep. Walked about 10 miles of Bangkok today and took in quiet a few things including a Thai street market selling everything from live+dead frogs, turtels, fish, eels, crabs etc. Every fruit and vegetable you can think of but the place was filthy though, dead rats on the floor, dogs everywere. Apparantly there are around 120000 stray dogs in Bankok alone…. very interesting fact to find out when you get here and chose not to have your rabies injection…..
Had another great Som Tam Thai ( papaya salad ) and watched a film from 8 pm then headed into Khoa San Road and Gullivers. Met up with Charlie and Ant again and we planned to just have a quiet one tonight and last night turned out to be a big one….
We followed the cricket on the internet in there and had to celebrate us winning the Ashes, would have been rude not to. Heading off then to an Irish bar and then onto a bar called Silks, flash backs from Cannock…
Then I took the lads to a Thai night club I found a few days ago. Early night was no more….. drinking and dancing till about 2am, wicked night. Then we just walked up and down Kha San Road till about 4am talking with people and just watching the world go by. We met this ricksaw driver who we called Bling Bling, his bike had flashing christmas tree lights on it too, he was some character.
We were as normal gettin hassled by tuk tuk drivers, at one stage a guy asked us were we were going and we were only crossing the road ( no wider than a normal road in England ) we said he could give us a lift for free if he wanted, we were laughing our heads of when he said yes and saw the joke. He literally just did a u turn and we got out, you had to be there. Bought some ballons filled with heliom(spl?) and thought it be a good idea to order food on the stuff, or rational behind it was that higher the pitch of our voices the more likely thais would understand us. Grabbed a corn on the cob to eat, talked with 3 thai girls who were out for an hour then we all headed back to our hotels. Cant explain in words the so many random things that was going on but it was a great laugh and probably one of the best night so far.
