May 28, 2004Auto Unfall im Buxtehude
Yes, you read right...car accident... Okay, so I´m NOT the transporter guy. Actually, I did fine driving in the city. Got out into the country on my way to see where my father grew up and had a fender bender in a nothing of a little village named Buxtehude. No injuries, thank goodness, but money traumas because of the insurance situation. (I declined it on the rental car because I was tired and forgot at the airport that I was in a foreign country! Stupid, stupid, stupid!). Suffice to say that I can use everyone's prayers on this one. Lamstedt and the visit itself outside of the accident was wonderful. Deutschland is the same latitude as Oregon and the countryside reminds me of Oregon home...rhodies and lilacs blooming everywhere...green fields. The trees and countryside were just wonderful after being in the city the day before. Am finding my way around okay, and feeling good about that. Got a tip from the girl at the hostel and took the bus to Berlin instead of the train and saved 25 euros. Hoping to catch up on sleep and food now that I am settled in Berlin for the weekend. So, the whole car trauma was another opportunity for me to learn about getting knocked on your butt and getting back up again. I tried to plan for everything and the unexpected got me anyway in a big (and possibly really expensive way). Since it is the beginning of my trip, I can take it as a bad omen or as a good sign that this trip is going to be more essential and meaningful to me than I could have planned. I try so hard to get everything right. Making mistakes and failing at something is NOT easy for me. So part of me is doing the typisch Simson-catastrophe-worst-case-scenario thing and another, deeper, quieter little part is saying aha! another chance to let go, trust in God's divine care, and keep on going despite failures. I am going to end up a more flexible person one way or another, it seems!! So I am trying to listen to that little voice saying see - the sun is shining, Gdansk and Russia are still calling, keep your chin up, and go. Comments
You go girl! My prayers and thoughts are with you! Don't let this one little (trying to be positive here) incident cast a cloud over this wonderful experience. I'm sure one day you'll look back and laugh. I look forward to reading more and living vicariously through your eyes and words! Love ya! Posted by: brandy on May 28, 2004 09:39 PMI'm singing this song for you today! Don't let your heart be troubled There's no need to worry Be Brave little pawn .. be brave! Ahhh...life's messy. I say take a picture and get their life story!! After all it's your first (and hopefully last!) accident there. Write a travel book, add this little experience ditty for some added humor, and you'll recoup your costs/loss when it sells like gang-busters!! (hee, hee) Hey...wait a minute...was it a he? Was he cute? He could be my husband!!! Take pictures!!! (LOL). Love ya Posted by: Gina on May 29, 2004 03:22 AMAt least you're having an adventure. A little fender bender is recoverable, and I vote for the 'keep your chin up' thing, the sun will come out tomorrow, tomorrow is another day, always look on the bright side of life, (and hopefully the credit card you put the rental car on has some sort of insurance coverage for car rentals [some of them do, check the policy] or your own auto insurance covers car rentals [again, some do, check the fine print]). I'll keep you in my prayers on that one... of course, you could always just skip town and leave the country... Your doing good, my prayers are with you, such and adventure, you've topped any I could talk about... The car accident is not a failure, it was just a bump on the road. It is not an indicator of things to come.. It's just a bump on the road. I know you'lll put that behind you and just chalk it up to one unexpected buisness expense. I'll be following you here kid..... Take care, God Bless...... Posted by: Uncle Eddie on May 29, 2004 04:22 PMAmy...no matter how bad I feel, you always make me feel better. So you crashed a jet, eh girl? Well, I know you are going to kick butt on all the rest of your sims, so don't let this shake your confidence. Suck it up! You´re still our super air force babe, class leader! Uncle Pete and I are cheering for you... :) Posted by: Beth on May 29, 2004 09:28 PMSorry, G, it was a girl! But next time I have a car accident (god forbid), I'll try to hit a cute guy for you!! Preferably one with good insurance who speaks English instead of Deutsch! Hey, the transporter would be good.... wasn't he British? Posted by: Beth on May 29, 2004 09:31 PMA mere fender bender is no biggie. As least you're alright and so it sounds still "rearing to go."
