May 01, 2006I'm in print!
It’s official! I’m now officially a “professional” writer! My first published piece appears in the May/June issue of Transitions Abroad (pp.70-71). I’d been in print before, but so long ago, I don’t think it counts anymore. Anyway, this is my first actual travel/language piece, so I’m very excited. And it’s a clip I can put on my resume. The new issue isn’t up on the TA website as of this writing, but feel free to check out www.transitionsabroad.com soon and perhaps you can catch my article online. Otherwise, I’ll post it to my website. And yep, I’ll be revamping my website (finally) this spring. UPDATE: The article is now online. Click here to read it. In other news, I’ve got a few more pieces out to editors, and I recently attended the LA Festival of Books and renewed a few relationships with editors, writers and publishers. After what seems like a long hiatus, I’m finally getting my momentum back. In fact, I’ve got a language book idea I hope to finish part of soon and send off with a proposal letter—perhaps by the end of May! (And if gets accepted, I feel positive that I can make a series of books like it for other languages.) Also, Lonely Planet sent out a request for travel writers, so I’m considering submitting an application, against the advice of a good friend who gives nothing but good advice about travel writing. Luckily, they’re looking for info on places I might be going anyway. So this might be a chance to travel and get some more writing experience and another writing credit. Little by little, they add up. Anyway, feel free to let me know what you think of it. ~d Comments
Dave, that's a nice piece. It's got a good structure. Congratulations! Posted by: grace on May 10, 2006 04:08 PMGreat work, Davo. As your #1 travelling buddy (or at least in the top 10), I have seen you in action for most of your published recommendations so I know it's the truth speaking. Here's to the start of an illustrious career that involves much travelling.. especially Down Under. Katy Posted by: Katy on May 10, 2006 04:42 PMHey, buddy! This is very exciting! I read your email as I was listening to the local Spanish station on my radio in an attempt to better my language skills. (No, SERIOUSLY!) Your article is accurate and timely. And guess what? This week my dad was published as a guest writer in the Grand Marais, MN local paper. Booyah to you, my friend! Keep it up!!! Luv, b Posted by: beckster on May 11, 2006 04:16 PMHey, buddy!
