Wat Pho? I'll give you Wat Pho!

thailandwatpho.jpg
Having escaped the nefarious clutches of the "tuk tuk and tailor conspiracy", I made a solemn promise to myself that the next person who offered me a suit I would "strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger" (Ezekiel 25:17) ..... or at least pointedly ignore them. We managed to figure out where we were on the map and started the long walk toward Wat Pho, the home of the worlds largest reclining Buddha. Outside a guy tried to tell us that it was closed for the day, but after what had happened to us earlier that day (see The Battle of Bangkok) it was hard to believe him, especially since Emily could see people inside. We walked down to the entrance and bought our tickets. Once inside we were blown away, Wat Pho is amazing, pictures do not do it justice, either they show the grand scale or the detail, whereas when you are there your immersed in both. It was impressive enough to make all the violent impulses vanish from my mind, and I got back to the business of ruining Emily's photos. At the entrance to all of the temples (there's about 20 in the complex) were impressive big scary statues, and after walking around we finally located the big guy himself. The reclining Buddah is 46m long and 23m high, he also has 108 beautiful mother of pearl inlays on his gigantic feet. We left via the gift shop feeling satisfied and walked for an hour rather than chance another tuk tuk. It had been a big day we were tired and sore and I needed a massage.
