What I've been reading

As most of you know, I am an inveterate bookworm. Thought some people might be interested in the books I read before this trip and so fuel that keeps me going across the endless Siberian steppes. Pick which ones are swaps from other travellers!

"Off the Rails" - Tim Cope and Chris Hatherly - excellent book about 2 aussie blokes who cycled across russia to china. Check out www.timcopejourneys.com for his ladest adventures in mongolia. he's one adventurous guy!
"All the right places" - Brad Newsham - Japan to Russia via China by bike and train. not as exciting as it sounds
"A year of Russian feasts" - Catherine Yetshenkof-Jones - nice mix of cultural traditions and recipes. stil hoping to find some of the yummy dishes she describes
"Among the Russians" - Colin Thurbon
"China - Culture Shock" - a guide book series on the culture rather than places to see. Informative.
Since I hit the road:
"The Bone People" - Keri Holme
"Adrift in China" Simon Meyers
"Baudolino" Umberto Eco
"Russia - An experiment with people" - Robert Service
"River Town - 2 years on the Yangtze" - Peter Hessler - excellent book, funny stories about English teaching too
"Bedside stories - confessions of a junior doctor" - Michael Foxton
"Anecdotes about Soviet power and their leaders" - collection
"The lost manuscript" - Rubem Fonseca
"The great railway bazaar" - Paul Theroux
"The Lost Country" - Jasper R? excellent book on travelling in and the history of Mongolia
"Wild East - Travels in the new Mongolia" - Jill Lawless
"Murder on the Orient Express" - Agatha Christie, as irony would have it I read it on the 12 hour boat journey down Lake Baikal and not on a train which has been my usual form of transport!!!
"Jennings and his adventures" dreadful turn of the century (19th) school boy story. Cant believe it was ever published, let alone republished only 4 years ago in Russia.
Harry Potter number 5 - escapism from non talkative train companions
