Trixie's "ohmygod!" moments

Greetings all, Trixie here with my new segment, "Ohmygod!"

In every travellers adventures there are times when a picture won't quite capture the moment but you can't just let it be forgotten. There are times when all you can do is say "Ohmygod!"

Here are the top five "Ohmygod!" moments to date.

5. An entire family sitting in a small shack in Soweto singing "Happy Birthday Lou-weese".

4. Tearing around the streets of Nairobi in a Black London Taxi decked out in red velour.

3. Walking into a dodgy Zanzibar nightclub just as the DJ starts playing "I Should Be So Lucky".

2. Tyson wowing the crowd at the Kampala Casino when he sang "All Of Me" with the band "Misty" (the comment of the evening came from an elderly Japanese fellow who approached Tyson saying "you are like Tony Bennett to me").

And the number one "Ohmygod!" moment to date is:

1. One of the Ugandan Peoples Defence Force soldiers, equipped with AK-47 and grenade sitting in the back of our bongo van on the way to Bwindi to escort our group on the sometimes volatile Uganda/Rwanda/Congo border, quietly reading my copy of Kenyan Cosmopolitan magazine. He particularly liked the article about long distance relationships and the Nairobi out and about section.

Good news Ty and Louise!! Duty Free allowances have been increased in Australia as of today. See article from ABC online...

Traveller duty free limits raised:

The Federal Government has announced an increase in the value of duty free goods travellers can bring into and take out of Australia.

The changes will come into effect today and will allow people to more than double the amount of their duty free allowances.

Customs Minister Senator Chris Ellison says the travel industry has been pushing for the change for many years.

"We'll see an increase from $400 to $900 for duty free goods and for a child from $200 to $450," he said.

"As well as that we'll see a doubling of the alcohol allowance from 1.125 litres to 2.25 litres. Tobacco will remain unchanged."

Senator Ellison says the changes will bring Australia into line with other countries.

"The travel industry will welcome this because it will mean more money being spent in the travel industry in Australia, more money for our duty free shops, especially in our airports," he said
