Karlovy Vary

Day 13
Airports 5
Train Stations 7
Bus Stations 3
Currency Exchanges 3

I found the hostel yesterday and checked in (lugged my heavy pack up the f'ing side of the mountain again). It is an entire apartment! I could not be happier. I went to the supermarket and stocked up on bread, milk, cereal, pasta and peanut butter since I will be here for a few days.
Had a great evening with a little Romanian guy (who I am sure was gay) and an Australian couple. They had rented a TV for the evening to watch the US Open. We drank wine, ate crackers and cheese, and talked about our travels.

Now for the second episode of WHAT THE HELL IS IT?

1. There is a word in Czech that looks like 'Laundry'. As you may know, many translations are pretty obvious, even in weird languages like German and Czech. Bus=Autobusova, Museum=muzeum, and Cashew=Cacähouete. So, when I saw a shop called 'Lhundsky' and said to myself, 'Cool, there is the laundry.'
Unfortunately, when I brought my WalMart sack full of stinky clothes in the door, I thought differently. It was some sort of meat market with lots of different hanging sausages. Ew. But as not to give up too early, I took my clothes up to the counter and politely began making sign language for laundry by moving my arms up and down as if washing imaginary clothes on a wash board while saying, 'Laundry, no?'
She looked at me funny and went to grab some detergent that was for sale and I politely shook my head 'no' and pointed to the floor saying, 'Laundry here, no?'
She pretty much burst out laughing, and kept laughing. Through her fits of laughter, she shook her head and said, 'Ne.'
So I bowed my head and walked out the door, glad I could be her entertainment for the day.

2. I was so excited to have my own groceries that I got up early this morning to fry me an egg in butter. But when I got out my little half stick of butter that I purchased the day before and opened it up, the consistency was the same but the color and smell were way off. It was a brownish gray, and I do not know what it smelled like, but it was not butter. But I had picked it up in the butter section of the supermarket, so it had to be something similar, right?
I cut off a slice and plopped it in the pan and turned on the burner. Nothing happened. It did not melt. It just sat there.
So I turned the burner on higher and left, JUST FOR A SECOND to get the eggs, came back, and there was a gooey, blob of boiling clumpy yuck. Ah, it was disgusting. Needless to say, I scraped it off and cooked my eggs this morning dry (which burned the bottom of the pan, but I will clean it). This substance is called Drozdi Cerstve pekarske, and I have no idea what the hell it is.

LATER
I have clean clothes and a six pack of beer! I am going to go celebrate as soon as I bathe (for the second time today) after walking up the god forsaken mountain. I swear it is 743 steps, I counted this morning! And it is at least a 30 degree angle. Geez.

Didnt you smell it?
Have fun,
