On My Own

So I've had a few people inquire as to how I am liking it "on my own". I must say that the past few days have been a mix of amazing clarity encompassing personal reflection and utter bewilderment as to how I ever expect to make it for eight months like this. When it comes right down to it, I think this will end up being one of the best decisions I ever make in life. It has been lonely at times, but I have met some amazing people. People from which I am learning about myself.
There were two musicians from West Africa (Senegal) staying the in the hostel on Friday night. Of course, I asked to see their guitar (I'm already having withdraws and wished I would have brought mine) and we all quickly bonded over a love of music. These guys could barely speak English, but somehow we made it through. They have a producer and their CD/DVD (of African music) called Bilocation is scheduled to release soon.
What's funny is that they can't make any money in music in Africa. So they come to Europe and bask (basically sit on the side of the street and play for passers by who throw tips). I think that's their sole income. It made me realize that people in the States (and I am even guilty of it myself) put too many limitations on life and themselves. If you want to play music, then play music. If it's in your blood, then don't deny yourself. Seka and Amadou invited me to bask with them yesterday. I really wanted to, it would have been my first official musical performance and I could have even made a few pounds.... but, alas, I could not find them when the time came. Apparently, they didn't have the optimal basking location.
Well, it's early Sunday morning and I am now getting ready to catch the bus to Bristol, where I'll spend the next few days.
Cheers!
