January 20, 2005A little S. Pacific Update
Hanging out in an internet cafe for the moment in a town called Lautoka waiting for a bus to take me to a town 2&1/2 hours North on the coast where I will get on a boat to an island called Nanaru-ia. This is supposedly a great dive island with lots of reefs and nice beaches. For the past 2 days I have been on an island called Robinson Crusoe Island. An Australian guy bought this island, which takes about 20 minutes to walk around, and built a bunch of bungalows and a big bungalow dorm room. It is a 20 minute boat ride from the coast to the island that looks like the picturesque South Pacific dream island. It is all white sand and I would estimate about 70% of the vegetation on the island is coconut palms. Here's a fun fact for you... 300 tourists are killed in Fiji each year by falling coconuts. Many of the palms are connected to each other with hammocks and the water is crystal clear. My itinerary for the past few days has included the following. Wake up somewhat early as the sun rises here at 5:30 AM. Have some breakfast and go for the first swim of the day. Grab a Kayak and paddle out to the big surf break that is about a mile and a half off shore. Come back and snooze in the hammock until lunch. Take another nap in a hammock until I muster up enough energy to grab a hand fishing line and go out to the coral rocks. Catch a few good size snapper that the folks back at the kitchen use for dinner. Catch a sunset cruise followed by a bonfire in preparation for dinner. Eat, drink a few stubby's and call it a night. Not a bad life. That's the island life. Comments
Sounds like your own personal heaven. :) Posted by: Jace on January 21, 2005 08:52 AMFalling coconuts? What a riot!!!We went to Irish Kevin's in KW and went and saw the "smaller" dolphin at Sloppy Joe's and saw a great two man singing group who were funny as hell. All in all had a great weekend once again in the keys:) Posted by: LPD on January 23, 2005 08:13 PM |
