Baz Peninsula Tour

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

The Penin Tour through Baz Bus is a definite must. You get to see alot of Cape Town you wouldn’t ordinarily see.

From getting up close and personal with the locals… penguins that is…. To chasing away baboons at your lunch spot. Not forgetting an easy bike ride through the reserve and hike to Cape Point.

The tour guide, Bruce, was full of useful information and random stories…

Starting off with some rather dreary looking weather and trying to wake up participants… side note: a saturday morning after a rugby came always results in a few being… well… a little under the weather. 🙂
But, true to form, wait 5min and the weather in Cape Town will change. We ended with a beautifully sunny day.

I think the top marks go to the delicious chocolate cookies and scrumptious rolls we had for lunch.

All in all, a good day was had….

Welcome to CAPE TOWN!!!!!

Well my luck held out and I made it all the way to Cape Town. Was able to initially book till Stellenbosch and then it turned out that not just one but THREE people didn’t show up… so I had a choice of where I wanted to sit.

Arrived at Long Street Backpackers at about 10pm last night and got checked in. (see my last entry for Long Street for rating and info). But as a refresher…. this is a pretty good place. In the heart of the party scene with numerous bars and coffee shops to choose from.

Lola’s just up the street to the left of the backpackers makes a great little cupcake and an excellent iced coffee.

Caravan Cafe… a moroccan style resturant has excellent food for a decent price. Tonight I had the chicken shwarma with vegetables and a glass of mango juice… not only was it healthy and delish’ but it all cost under R35 (less than $6).

Tomorrow morn’ will see me depart on the Baz Bus Peninsula tour… watch this space for a review.

My mission begins…..

November 23rd
Have finally arrived in Cape Town and am busy sorting out all the things I need to do for the festival. Am staying at Long Street Backpackers. Must admit, I never thought I wanted to stay at a backpackers that was in the center of things, but it is kind of nice.

Long Street Backpackers: 7.5/10 Nice atmosphere, beautiful old house with open courtyard in the center, little bit of a mission to find bathrooms and hard to sleep if you are not a party person. But on the whole nice and central, with a flea market just down the way and tons of shopping and bars.

Had to go all the way to the other side of CT to get some “Stage” magazines that had been sponsored then all the way back to pick up 12 bottles of sponsored Jose Cuervo from the Stage Mag co. Well it turns out that they gave us the wrong mags and the company only gave us 6 bottles rather than 12. Also the fliers they were sponsoring us and which were meant to be ready today went from 12 000 to 3 000 and will only be ready in a week or 2. Frustrating is an understatement.
Thanks a ton to my cousin for driving me around.

A little behind on the writing

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Hi all

OK so I am rather behind on my posts. I promise to stay upto date, or as close as possible. Pretty much I am going to write about some interesting experiences and thoughts and rate all the hostels I have stayed in. Since my 2month trip has now turned into 5 I think its time to start writing.

Well I landed in Cape Town after a 40+ hour travel time. Was met by cousin who I have not see in about 10yrs. The last time I was in Cape Town I was 3 so it was like landing in a whole new coutry for me. But due to the fact that Iwas rather jet Lagged and leaving on the early us the next morning to Port Elizabeth, I decided to wait until my return in December for exploration.

I stayed at Sunflower Stop BackPackers, but since I was only there for a few hours I can’t really rate it. However the staff were friendly and the hostel clean. There is a grocery store just down the way. So it was a nice quiet place to hang your head.

The next morning I boarded the bazbus with driver Barry at the wheel. Bazbus is an excellent service especially for those first time travellers. However it can take twice as long as the normal bus because it stops at a lot of hostels on the way, but then again thats what makes it good.

I will write more later….. have to go help plan a christmas party for the local african school tomorrow… Later all
