Beware of the Ostrich!!

Well, after leaving Port Elizabeth, where I stayed with my aunt. I headed towards Durban, another 17hr trip. The reason for these marathon bus rides was to get to Durban for my high school reunion. The main excuse for taking this trip.
On the bus I met a girl who had had a fierce encounter with an ostrich. Now many people might think the ostrich is an oversized chicken…. However an ostrich can be exceptionally mean and very fast. Sara and a fellow volunteer had entered a pen to check on some donkeys when a male ostrich attacked them. Using its beak, body, wings and large claws it got quite nasty. The girls were lucky to get away with bruises and cuts and scrapes. Sara said she was impressed she was able to vault the fence as easily as she did. She is now a full supporter of the ostrich meat and leather industry, and as a farewell gift the other volunteers gave her a small toy ostrich (that hangs from her bag in a hangmans noose….)……..
