September 15, 2004Nazca
Arrrived in Nazca from Lima on Sept 9th 2004. Arrived late at 9.30 although there were lot of hostel touts waiting at the bus station. I decided to stay at Hostel Alegria, it was okay place. Booked a Nazca line flight for US$40 with them, also purchased ticket to Ariquipa for next day. Next morning took the flight over Nazca lines. We flew in a very small four seater plane. There was a couple from Vermont that flew with me. The flight itself lasts about 45 minutes.
The whale is 65 meters long, Trapezoids are 3Km long, the dog 50 met, Condor 120 meter, Parrot 230 meter long. Later during the week during hike of Colca Canyon, I met one Germand researchers from Dresden that had spent about one month in doing some survey work. If you really wants to see more better pictures of Nazca lines see the Dresden University site . In the afternoon took a taxi to Mirador to see some figures. Then returned to the hotel and spent about 2 hours downloading 120MB of photos from Galapagos, Lima and Nazca. The speed was actually good given how remote Nazca is and there is not much other than Nazca lines in that town. In the evening the bus left Nazca at 12.30AM instead of 11.30PM. The road from Nazca to Ariquipa is very good, I actually got about 6 hours of good sleep on the bus. They provided breakfast & coffee on the bus in the morning. Comments
