hanoi like woah
after breakfast jess and i took a WILD WILD WILD stroll around town. this place is like no other. every couple of streets is like a little town that specializes in something, we strolled from noodle town (although truth be told, it’s ALL noodle town round here) to meat town to welding town to small animals in small cages town to pots and pans town to meat town to hats town. all the while we were popping in and out of hotels checking things out and talking to people. more vietnames: excuse me = sin loi, and please = laman. also good/cool = tot. also we went to a supremely dope art gallery called APRICOT gallery where all the women wore long red silk robes and the art was amazing especially ridiculous trees that looked like the love child of an oak tree and a red pear, painted by an artist names Phong. after jumping on and off a few motos and being shown all different types of lodging, we came back to our hotel and decided to stay put. at this point we are extremely starving so after a quick shower we take this little cart attached to a little bike attached to a little man to a vegi restaurant that presents puzzles and mysteries to solve in finding it including issues like; why are there three 64 Huang Gan addresses spread out along one block. we decide that the street addresses hold little meaning and ask around until we find it. the vegi palace is down a bunch of side streets and is super cute. we order coffee and heaps of assorted vegi goods including spring rolls (note; this blog might turn into sprign roll quest 2005 within a few days) fried noodles, spinach wrapped mushroooms, mustard greens, and sweet corn. exhausted we jump on a moto, this time together (3 people on one moto is not only not cheaper than two motos, it is really too crazy as well) and go to a hotel where we think we can swim. we go to the pool and lay out on chairs and are told EXTREMELY apologetically that in fact we can not swim, nor stay there. the lady at the front desk tells us abotu a pool at the army hotel that we can pay for the day and we are close by so we walk. lots of people at this pool are french white people with vietnamese babies. the cuteness becomes unbearable. jessie decides to go back to the hotel and we decide it is okay if i stay as long as it is clear that if i am not back in 2 hours there will be problems and concern abound. i am back at the hotel now, exhausted and in need of shower #3 of the day.
