Technical Note on “Web Accelerators”

April 8th, 2006

If our pictures on this blog ever look really bad and grainy, then chances are you have some kind of web accelerator turned on. The way these things “speed up” your browsing experience is by turning pictures into very low-resolution versions of the originals. It should be pretty easy to figure out how to turn them off. And you have to refresh the webpage by hitting Ctrl-F5 because it thinks it’s already downloaded all the pictures.

And if the pictures are high-resolution and just plain crappy, then that’s our fault. 🙂

Day 355: Total Eclipse

April 1st, 2006

Side, March 29, 2006

We hadn’t heard about it, and things worked out so that we ended up in the right place at the right time. And considering the eclipse was one of the coolest things we’ve ever seen, we’re really glad we did.

Intermission: California (and Oregon) Dreamin’

March 17th, 2006

California, Here I Come

bloom in the spring
each morning at dawning
birdies sing at everything
a sunkissed miss said, “Don’t be late!”
that’s why I can hardly wait
open up that Golden Gate
California, Here I Come

Here’s an Intermission blog that is short on text but has lots of pics of friends and family. Our apologies to those we failed to visit or get a good picture of.

Days 294-305: Eastern Rajasthan

January 22nd, 2006

Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur, Pushkar, Jaipur

The western state of Rajasthan is a vast desert full of colorfully dressed people. The men wear enormous, cotton candy colored turbans and have huge handle bar mustaches. The women glide down the street in brilliant, multicolored saris. The holy sadhus roam the streets in saffron robes. Even the beggars are colorfully dressed. But we took pictures of other stuff. Doh!
