Countdown to Maui

October 13th, 2006

After spending several days visiting and evaluating towns, we decided to spend a few days on Vancouver Island before hitting the big city. We arrived at Horseshoe Bay at 3PM and had to sit through two ferries before finally getting on the 7PM ferry to Nanaimo. Word to the wise, don’t attempt a ferry crossing at Horseshoe Bay on a Monday in an RV without a reservation. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Read the rest of this entry »

Decisions, Decisions…

October 13th, 2006

It was now early September and we were beginning the final leg of our North American tour. It was time to start visiting some BC towns to evaluate them as potential relocation sites upon our return. We decided to check out Golden, Kelowna, Kamloops and Squamish in that order. I’ll tell you about our visits and then you can vote to help us decide. Read the rest of this entry »

Missoula to Edmonton

October 13th, 2006

Ok, so it’s been a while since I’ve posted a blog, but that’s due to lack of an internet connection. I have been writing faithfully on my laptop, though and just need to upload a bunch of entries. Keep checking over the next couple of weeks and, hopefully, I’ll get caught up. I’m still working on getting the pictures uploaded, too. Read the rest of this entry »

The Latest Update

September 26th, 2006

So I’ve managed to restore the texts of my lost posts and they tell us the pictures will be available soon. Unfortunately, with all the time spent on retrieving my data, I’ve fallen terribly behind on my posts.

We’re currently in Maui and will be heading to Honolulu tomorrow and Fiji in a few days. Hopefully, I’ll have time to catch up on my posts then. We’re having a great time surfing, windsurfing and generally relaxing. More to follow…

Cheers to everyone, we miss you all!

Missing Entries

September 21st, 2006

If you’re wondering what happened to all of our entries since mid-August, there was a glitch with the website and they’ve lost all the data since Aug 17th. Needless to say, I want to throw up. They assure us that they are doing everything they can to restore the lost entries, but I may have to redo them. Fortunately, I have most of them on disk (minus the pictures), but it’s gonna be a lot of work!! I think I’ll be shopping around for a new website. Stay tuned for details…

Badlands to Yellowstone

September 10th, 2006

After our adventures at Wall Drug, we continued West through the Black Hills of South Dakota. By the way, we had a great time in the Badlands. It was kind of funny because it is supposed to be one of the hottest, driest places on the continent and it was rainy and about 18 degrees Celsius when we were there. It was nice, though, because the crowds were thin and we were able to enjoy the place without frying in the heat. We went for a little hike and discovered that the hard dry clay becomes something akin to fresh concrete when it gets wet. By the time we got back, our shoes had disappeared under several layers of muck and our feet felt 10 pounds heavier – but we had fun! Read the rest of this entry »

Only 129 Miles to Wall Drug!

August 31st, 2006

As we drove through the prairies of South Dakota we started seeing signs every few miles proclaiming “Only ___ miles to Wall Drug!” or “We’ve got it all at Wall Drug!” They boasted about all the products and services they provided at Wall Drug – everything from photofinishing to a café and a chapel. It became a game to guess how many of these signs we would see before we finally got there and as we approached the town of Wall, they became even more plentiful. Now I am a pharmacist and do hold drugstores in high regard, but even I couldn’t fathom what could possibly be so special about a simple small town pharmacy. When we turned off the interstate to drive through the Badlands, we asked the park attendant what the best route through the park was. She replied, “Oh , just take the 240 through the park and then keep going until you get to Wall Drug.” Not Wall … Wall Drug! Read the rest of this entry »

Sunrise in South Dakota

August 27th, 2006

We’ve spent the last week flying across the Midwest in our quest to get to Yellowstone National Park where we’ll stop for three days and really get to enjoy some camping. We’ve made pitstops in Niagara Falls and South Bend, Indiana (home of Notre Dame) and spent one night in a roadside rest stop in South Dakota after a long day and night of driving.
