Introduction

Welcome to my blog!

Ok, so June 1st was the date I set for myself awhile back as a date of no return.  Basically, this is where the planning begins and when I actually start taking the trip serious.   Here are the basics.  December 14th of this year should be my last day of work.   I’ll then take about a month to get any last minute planning done and around mid-January fly one-way to Bangkok and travel through (mostly) South East Asia.  This is my blog that will cover the planning and execution of this journey.  The only definites so far are that I will be in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos… anything else is in addition and not concrete.

For those who don’t know me… I am 25 right now but will be 26 at the time of this trip.  I live in Tampa, Florida.  I was never into school all that much unless the subject involved some kind of social science.  I love geography and history and by taking this trip I hope to learn more about Asia.  When I return I my main goal is to not have to rely on a cubicle job and would like to go back to school for a degree in something I actually enjoy,  even if on the surface it doesn’t have a lot of options for me.  Maybe geography or history with a minor in education?

I am shooting for atleast 6 months but that could be cut short or last even longer depending on what happens while i’m on the road.  I plan on having everything saved for the trip by December 15th 2006 so that means a strick saving schedule until then.  I’m at about 40% of my goal as of today and moving back home for a few months before the trip will help out even more.

I hope you enjoy reading my entries. I can only imagine there will be large spaces inbetween posts for the next couple of months but anytime I have a major update on my planning it will go here.

I’ve planned the same trip with my departure date to Bangkok (from Los Angeles) being in January as well (one-way ticket). I read on numerous websites that Thailand won’t allow entry if you have a one-way ticket. But, then again, I also read of some U.S. citizens (like ourselves) who managed to gain entry into Thailand with a one-way ticket. Please let us know if you have avoided this predicament (by purchasing a round-trip or multi-city ticket) or how you plan on getting through this problem.

    Hi Zepyhr,

To be honest I haven’t conscerned myself too much with the one-way ticket situation in Thailand or any of the cities i’m flying one-way to.

But now that you brought it to my attention I have a credit card as an emergency that I will purchase an onward ticket if I am forced to and then call back and cancel that reservations since all airlines give you 24 hours to call back. (something I don’t think everyone is aware of)
