Snakes in a Jungle

Khao Sok Jungle Raffleasia

Most people lay on the beach to relax with the sea breeze and gentle lapping of the waves. After a few days in Khao Sok, a national park / rainforest, we weren’t in any hurry to get back to the sand. We traded our ocean-side bungalow for one along a bamboo-lined river. We happily gave away sunny and salty swimming for cool and crystal-clear rivers fed by waterfalls. The sound of squawking seabirds gave way to a chorus of frogs, the jungle catch of the day served with lots of spice.

Our mornings were spent exhausting ourselves on a myriad of jungle trails surrounded by lizards, snakes, and giant flowers, until the heat of the afternoon drove us back to our hammock and fan, until the relief of the daily downpours. The 200 baht Thai massages didn’t hurt either (mostly). Unlike our European host who has been in Khao Sok for the past 10 years, after six days, we left refreshed and ready to handle Bangkok.
