Fox Glacier
We had a great day walking on the Fox glacier (the less touristy glacier on the West Coast of NZ). To get onto the ice we walked up through rain forest – which in itself it quite strange. Glacier + rain forerst…the two don’t usually go hand in hand!
We spent a day on the ice, generally following pre-cut steps, but before lunch the guide took us off the ‘beaten track’, well not very beaten given that it changes on a very regular basis as the glacier moves off down the mountain. There had been a hige ice fall the day before, in which thousands of tons of ices were thrown off down the river – it made a very large noise which was heard for miles off.
It was’t a great day weather wise, but apparently it makes the ice look bluer (well we bought the schpeal from the guide anyway)!
Thought for the day: ice + feet = very cold toes!
