VIETNAM: Sapa

After an extremely bumpy overnight train ride, and a very winding, nauseating bus drive up the mountain, we finally found ourselves in Sapa.  It is an extremely picturesque village located in the northwest corner of Vietnam, close to the border with China.  Most of the hilltribes here regularly wear their traditional dress which makes for fantastic photos!

I am quite surprised at how upfront and friendly the people are here.  Most speak very good English, which is more than I can say for the people in Hanoi.  During a discussion about young men, several young girls told me, very matter of factly, men who are too handsome are ‘playboys’!!  They seem to be quite knowledgeable about most things, despite the fact they are located so far from any major cities.

I have taken it easy most of today, because I am still feeling the after-effects of the train and bus rides – queasiness and dizziness.  But, I just had a nice foot massage (only USD 5) so I am feeling a lot better.  I passed on the hiking too today, saving my energy instead for our trek tomorrow to a local village where we will be spending the night.  The adventures continue!
