Sorry there haven’t been updates n a week. I’ve been busy travelling the centre and didn’t want to pay $12/hr for internet access in the outback. Amazing you can get internet and mobile phone coverage in the outback at any rate!
Took the Ghan up to Alice Springs. Pretty cool to travel. It’s more comforatable than bus and airplane but it is kinda boring since the scenery doesn’t change… travelling through flat desert for 19 hours…. get’s a little repetitive.
Checked out the Flying Doctors and walked around town after dark. Smething they recommend you not to do alone… but it was ok, Eveline and I walked around together on lit streets only.
Next day, picked up by Wayward Bus and headed off for 3 1/2 days of outback adventure!
We arrived in the campsite near Uluru and Kata Tjuta in time to see the sunset from the lookout there. Woke up at 430am to bushwalked Kata Tjuta the next morning and watched the sunrise come upon the towering rocks.
Halfway through the walk the one other Canadian on out tour, Stuntgirl, tripped up and twisted her ankle and cut her knee badly. She had to go to the medical centre back at the campsite. ($270 for 4 stitiches)
The fashonistas sporting the latest tourist fashions.
Next, walked around Uluru. We picked up a couple of other tourists on our guided Mala walk and at one point a snake passed through the feet of Stuntgirl; she was the only one not sitting. lucky her! hahah
Sunset viewing of Uluru
Next day, we did a 3 hour walk around King’s Canyon in the middle of the hot sun, about 50C in the direct sunlight. the first part was the hardest, the Heart Attack Hill. About half way through the walk we stopped at the Garden of Eden and took a swim in the dark, black water.
more pics inside, i’m bored of typing. ttyl
