The Beginning
In 1997, Andre and I left Nova Scotia as fresh graduates of Dalhousie University in chemistry. Andre wanted to complete his chemical engineering degree and I wanted to start working in my field of study. We moved coast to coast in a 5 day driving spree of over 6500km from Blockhouse, Nova Scotia to Vancouver, British Columbia!
Morning of the Bungy in New Zealand
We have been living here ever since, both of us happy forging our careers in both chemistry and chemical engineering. We have made some fantastic lifelong friendships over the last 8 years and it will be hard to uproot and continue on our adventure but you only live once and we want to make the most of it!
We had an epiphany over a bottle of wine last summer 2004 – isn’t that how all of life’s best ideas emerge!? The epiphany? – wouldn’t it be great to see the world before we settled down into a little house somewhere with 1.5 kids and have responsibilities like all the other grown ups? We had been contemplating buying a home and realized we were looking at ones with 3 and 4 bedrooms – WHY??? It was a subject neither one of us knew how to breach, even after being together for 10 years! It was just something we never spoke about……..so we started. We both came to the same conclusion – there were just too many things we wanted to do before we settled down and started a family. We can save this downpayment for later – that life would wait for us. We never want to regret any choices we make and some of those choices will be around for 18 years before we would be free…….the time to go was now and then we would have no regrets……..and that is how the whole idea came to life!
