Leaving Laos
We have moved on and on and on since the last entry and I apologize for that! Since leaving Laos we have experienced cramped buses that my little short 5″4 (almost) legs can’t fit into, we have been in cattle class at the back of the bus with bags of rice and boxes of noodles piled all around us – a 10 hours bus ride that was extremely uncomfortable. This is the same bus ride where we had our own guard who carried a AK-47 because the highway number 13 is known for run-ins with Hmong rebels. NICE! This same bus broke down in the hills, apparently changing a flat tire that didn’t look flat. All the while our guard helped change the tire……what the hell is going on here? We eventually get into the town we want and survived. We bought silk scarves and I got a traditional Laos silk skirt made, went to a weaving village and bought the weave right off the loom!
We saw the Plain of Jars in Phonsovan – really cool! Then we did a marathon bus ride to the south of Laos 22 hours on a bus, but we needed to move on. Then, 2 days before we’re scheduled to leave Laos, I get a stomach bug that required some antibitotics we thankfully brought from Canada. Three days of drugs and I still can’t keep anything in, but we move onto Cambodia.
