Walking and Eating

There seems to be a theme here in Taiwan. The more I walk the more I seem to find to eat. As with anywhere really, there are cheap and expensive places to eat. I can’t say that Taipei is cheap especially for an Asian city, but there sure is a lot of great food you can get quickly instead of burgers and stuff. The New Taiwan Dollar comes in various sizes, mostly a $1.50 coin, a $3 bill, a $15 bill, and a $30 bill as it translates to USD. (50, 100, 500 and 1000NT) I usually tend to judge the cost of living in a country by how much they charge for beers. Here it’s about $4-5 in a bar or $6-8 at the Hyatt bar and restaurants. Hell, I can pay those prices in the States.

The North Coast of Taiwan is very pretty with strange volcanic rock and limestone formations, C in Wanli dangerous cliffs, Dangerous Cliffs and beautiful sunsets. Wanli Sunset And of course, best of all, live seafood.

It seems a little odd to me, but here even after a dictator dies, they still have a giant memorial to Chang Kai Shek. He may have called himself President of the ROC, but nonetheless, he was a dictator and ruled with an iron fist. This is not to say that China wouldn’t have been better off in his hands than Mao, BUT… The grounds of his memorial park takes up a few city blocks and encompases the National Theater, Concert Hall and his Memorial Hall CKS Memorial

I thought it’d be a good idea to get up to the Yao Ming mountains and away from the city, but unfortunately on the weekends everybody seems to have the same idea and you end up not getting away from them at all, until you start putting some effort into climbing. I wish we didn’t go up on a Sunday because it’s really quite pretty up there.Yan Ming Waterfall

I’m going to head south and see what I find down there. Ciao for now.
