TN Turtle time
Okay so there is an interesting dynamic going on with the turtles. First off we have no idea what sex either of these turtles are. Zeus is larger than Caspian in size and generally dominates the tank. Sometimes Zeus gets in Caspians face and takes it’s hand/fins and waves them in Caspians face. Lisa says that Zeus is bitch slapping Caspian.
I think that Caspian sort of likes it. Caspian doesn’t move or try to get out of the way when Zeus is doing the “wave in face” action. So I was wondering if it was like tickling the face kind of movement.
Today Shanthi our 2 and a half year old neighbor came over to look at the turtles and when Zeus climbed out of the water she cried out “There he is” and when Caspian stuck it’s head out of the water she yelped” Oh she’s cute”
So whe are confused. Any thoughts???

I will have to fully disagree that Zeus, is bitch slapping Caspian. If he was doing so, I think Caspian would do it back, or try and swim away, which is not the case. I’m thinking that this is some form of endearment. If anyone has any knowledge of turtle loving please reply….As for trying to figure out the sex of these turtles, I think I will agree with Shanti for the moment, until I can come up with a better reason.
I think the real question here is: Which sex is the most dominant force in the turtle world, and from there I think the gender issue could be solved with these two!
Can you have these turtles sexed by a vet? I know this is what you have to do with snakes, if you want to know the sex. THe whole dominance issue could be confusing, because how do we know if the turtles know which sex is supposed to be more dominant. When figureing on gender, I think one must look at the genitals. Lindsay, I find it so interesting that you have turtles living with you now, and thank you Lisa for bringing these very entertaining creatures into Lindsay’s life! Oh, and Lindsay, Elvis has left the building; I repeat Elvis has left the building! Do You Copy?
Ok Suckas, Here it is. I am going to clear the air once and for all. I have do none some research on the subject of turtles and spercificaly “red eared sliders” which is what Caspian and Zues are. This total turtle guy who breeds them gave me information that makes me believe that Zues is a dude and Caspi is a chick and also that maybe Zuesy likes Caspi in that way. Now I personaly don’t like to believe that my little guys are, like, in some sort of romantic relationship, but it’s not lookin’ so good. So, Zuesy likes to wave his hands all up in Caspians grill in a manner i would interpret as rude and uncalled for. But this internet guy says that Zues is puttin’ the moves on Caspi And is trying to kiss Caspi. And when it looks like Zues is biting Caspi in the head, i guess he is just trying to pimp his shit. Little fools are crazy. – L- Dub (Caspi and Zuesy’s Momma)
“Red-ears readily breed in captivity, and they have a neat and elegant courtship display that makes fascinating viewing. A male will spend hours trying to maneuver the female into a favorable position so that he can line up face to face with her. He stretches out his fore-legs in front of his head and vibrates his long fingernails in her face. This is followed by more boisterous activity during which the male may bite the female on the neck, and, ultimately, by mating itself.”
