Still in Killarney
Slept in today, did my laundry, cleaned up my room (I was moved to a 4-bed room by myself, but I still only have to pay the 8 bed rate! Yay! Its like being in a hotel… for 12.50 a night (cheapest hostel ever)). Got brunch in a cafe, and Im going horseback riding through the park in an hour. Let’s see how my legs do – Ive taped one of them up in preparation. Yay riding! Kristl comes back today – so after my ride I need to call her to ask about Glengarriff and stuff. Not much else. Reading my book. Looking forward to the Baftas (whether I get to watch or not). Wishing I could see Lost. Enjoying the sun out here – its very nice out (knock on wood – stay that way!) I would take some photos of Killarney, but they are doing lots of road work in prep for the summer, so Ive been having a hard time finding a picturesque shot.
I like this entry from EW: I like to keep abreast of the ice cream rumor mill, among others (nachos, DVR shortcuts, Henry Ian Cusick), so I am all over the buzz about a possible Ben & Jerry’s flavor to be inspired by… Stephen Colbert! YES! The No Fact Zone blog posted a pic of a (possibly fake) mockup of a flavor called Americone Dream — which looks and probably tastes great, but just in case it’s all a big fat lie, help me come up with some alternate flavor names. Here’s what I got:
Baby Ruth-iness
Strangeness With Candy
Butter Know a District
White-Chocolate House Correspondents’ Association Dinner
and my personal fave:
Dead Bear Claw
Let ’em rip. Let’s hear it for useless lists!
I like strangeness with candy, personally… but that might be my fondness for the show…
EW also has a list of the best movies to watch for Valentine’s day and among the obvious (Amelie, Pride and Prejudice – the new one, In the mood for love, like water for chocolate, sense and sensibility), they have this gem: THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING (2003)
I’ve heard a couple of folks say that if you cut through the subtext, this movie could be viewed as something of a love story between Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin). To which I say, ”Subtext???” Steadfast Sam’s devotion to his companion — fighting off that giant spider, being forced to vacation at Mount Doom, looking at Frodo’s scary-hairy feet — goes way beyond the call of friendship. Of course, if you’re not down with my totally plausible gay love angle on the final chapter in the LOTR trilogy, there’s two things I’m sure you’ll agree with: The 2003 Oscar winner for Best Picture works equally well as an epic fantasy, and it sure beats renting Failure to Launch this Valentine’s Day. (Oh so true…)
