Seriously, EW, just hire me already

Which British actors should appear in Harry Potter? In other words, how do we squeeze in the rest of the Gosford Park cast? (although I think Kristin Scott Thomas as Narcissa is an inspired idea – she constantly looks like she’s smelling something bad)

On a semi-related note – can anyone think of an actor who looks like, but isn’t, David Thewlis? (Lupin)

From Cleolinda: The moment Hermione sees Harry in an all new, leather-clad light.

The villains in the Dark Knight. Ok – I trust Christopher Nolan – but lets all steer clear of what brought Spidey 3 down, shall we?

This is awesome: Michael Moore on CNN. (Daily show – come back from Vacation already!!)
Crudup as Dr. Manhattan? Please, dear god yes. He’s about the only actor brilliant enough to pull it off. Or Christian Bale, but he’s pretty booked up. Speaking of which – when is this supposed to start filming? I assume before the strike, but its taking forever to get off the ground. Its like when I heard Patrick Stewart as Prof. X several years before anything ever happened. The other exciting news; possible official announcements at comic-con. Hey! My friend Chris has a booth there this year (Yay Rabbit and Bear Paws!) Chris! News-duty!

Ok, the Get Smart teaser made me laugh. And I loved Get Smart as a kid!

Wahlberg Ready To Rumble For Aronofsky’s ‘Fighter.’ Yay Aronofsky (I still need to see the Fountain!) and the Boston mafia. Seriously – has Damon decided never to film outside of Boston again?

Motivational desktops from the Office

What’s Opera Doc?

Cleolinda: Fred Claus : Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Spacey, and “Ludacris. As an angry elf.” I won’t go see this – but Paul Giamatti as Santa Claus is pretty inspired.

Simpsons’ Springfield Named. Seriously, Vermont??

Body Paint in popular culture (I like the mythbusters nod, personally – I need to see that ep!)

Hallam Foe (from the director of Young Adam, which was brilliant), starring Jaime Bell and Claire Forlani.

For those who liked Elizabeth and are excited for the Golden Age; The Young Victoria, starring Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend.

WB: Harry Potter, Paramount: Spiderwick chronicles, Disney: Narnia, New Line: Golden Compass, 20th century Fox: Dark is Rising. Anyone not have a multi-story children’s fantasy epic to make? Anyone?

Sleuth remake (for those of you in America who can get the trailer). Jude Law, have you learned nothing about remaking Michael Caine films? This one might be better, given Michael Caine is still in it.

The 3:10 to Yuma has been bumped up a month, but probably not in the Southern hemisphere.

Beyoncé to Star in Aida Adaptation? Hell, no. She can’t belt it the way Heather Headley can. And if they are going to turn in into a movie – lets get some better writers on board so the book might be up to the songs, shall we?

Theres a third (and real) trailer for Bee movie. Not as funny as Eddie Izzard, quelle suprise.

More (noon-spoilers) on Harry: So far – the cream of the crop on rotten tomatoes has given Harry Potter 5 a positive score, yet over on imdb, they’re reporting mostly negative reviews. Ah – its not the reviewing that counts – its how you spin it. Or – you know – what the fans think. I wonder if metacritic has audience scores up yet? Oh – and for those who thought Ootp was their least favorite book (mom), the reviewer at cinematical thinks its an improvement. Because – you know – the reviewers aren’t wildly all over the map on their opinions of the thing. (you know. you know.) (My fave reviews are over at AICN – one by a huge fan one by a freak who has never read the books. Freak.)
Oh, and I got crap trailers. Ratatouille AGAIN, golden compass AGAIN (okay – its clear that HP is the perfect audience for that – the girl behind me nearly threw a fit when she saw it) surf’s up, Hairspray, and.. the others clearly weren’t memorable. I also forgot to mention that our sound skipped a couple of times during the big action sequences, but I figure that was first showing issues. It wasn’t too bad.

I’m off to exchange used books before moving on up to Cairns tomorrow.

Musica: reasons to be beautiful – Hole, Capital G – NIN, Silver and cold – AFI, Minor thing – RHCP, androgyny (remix) – Garbage, Words – Kate Miller-Heidke, I predict a riot – Kaiser Chiefs, Drunken lullabies – Flogging Molly

  1. Karen says:

The reason it isn’t my favorite book is b/c JKR did such an excellent job of portraying Harry as a 15-year old…he’s up! he’s down…

    He’s up! down…Up! down….

It’s exhausting just reading about all that adolescent emotion.

I might not have been so annoyed with it had I not been the mother of teens when the book came out.
