Penzance
is the very model of an ancient English pirate town. (Sorry – couldn’t resist; its from my guidebook). It is adorable!
But first – the train ride:It had turned dark before I got to Bodmin (5.5 hr train ride from London). But till then it was pretty countryside; geese swans, the grey/white hawk thing, wild bunnies (!!!), pheasants, a pig farm, deer (!!!), and the usual assortment of goats, sheep and horses. And a seriously rusted out old fashioned engine. Also – being just a bit south of Dublin make such a big difference in how late it stays light (I mean, its still early, but not as early). Oh – I also forgot that when I went out with Megan, not only did she introduce me to a Pimms lemonade, I found anchor steam!! Awww….
Even firster: I went to the natural history museum yesterday. The building looks like a cross between a cathedral or old train station, and all the gargoyles out side are lions, easgles, squid, lizards, etc. (didn’t take my camera. oops.). Wait 0 did I post that already? I think I did. nevermind.
Cornwall is adorable. Went to Admiral Benbows last night for a pint – it is crammed full of every nautical knicknack you can imagine – they even had those nautical people mugs that dad has 2 of. And the hull of part of a ship, and a sawfish nose, a sword through one of the beams, a sea turtle sculture on the ceiling….etc. etc. AND there was a guy in there celebrating his birthday – he was turning 6.75 (get it?? on March 1st….) AND IN PENZANCE!! Hahahaha…..
Going to the eden project today (st michaels mount and the marine tours are closed). Not going to titangel/boscastle (winter closures). More later – train is here
